NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY |
|
When the National Honor Society was founded in 1921, the hope was to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. These ideas of scholarship, character, service, and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. Members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection as members. Membership is not only an honor but also a commitment. Membership is extended to students who have already exhibited academic achievement, leadership, and admirable character. Members gather to demonstrate their willingness to use their talents and skills for the improvement of the community. NHS is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals. In the spirit of SLCHS and NHS, students perform independent service projects throughout the community utilizing their individual talents and abilities to serve others who can benefit from them.
